My friend and i aren't able to connect to eachother, but are able to connect to the rest of the world without issue.

It comes up "NAT negotiation Error"

The full low down:
yes our nats are both open
yes upnp is enabled
we could connect before but recently can't connect at all
we can join the same game that someone else hosts but if one of us is hosting, it won't connect
we've both got our ports forwarded
we've both tried setting the dmz to our comp ip adresses
we've tried disabling anti vriruses
we've made sure the firewalls are disabled

I took my pc round to his house yesterday and as soon as i connected to his router, we were playing online all night (not lan), it's only when i get home that the issue starts again, but only between our computers. we can still connect to every one else

It's asif his computer and my computer refuse to talk to eachother unless they are on the same network but as i say, it's just ours because we can still connect to all other games

I have yet to try taking my pc to another persons house and running through their router to see if the problem persists

Any ideas??

Please help me
Thanks very much in advance

Interestingly it's not just Company of heroes but dawn of war 2 as well. and we are unable to connect to voice chat through windows live either (all of which we used to be able t do no problem) but steam chat works just fine

It's not relic online or because of the new patch as it worked instantly on someone elses internet line
And it's not my router settings as it worked instantly with my current settings on someone elses internet line

When i get this problem with my friend we usually just both restart our games till we can connect. usually works but i dunno if it does for anyone else.

We've tried resetting games, resetting computers, reseting routers, updating wireless drivers, and just plain unplugging the wireless card and then plugging it back in again...

to no avail :sad face:

What router do you have?

are you sure your forwarding port 6112 udp to your computers internal ip address?

I've found that there is literally no fathomable reason why this happens I'm afraid - you can trawl every forum post going and you will find its basically random!!!

Me and my mates get it all the time and the steps we take to fix it are as follows:

1) Exit out the game and clear the 3 items in your "cache" folder (usually in documents\my games\company of heroes\cache - but I'm on Steam so this may differ if you are using the retail version!)

2) ONE of you do a hard reset of your router (usually the person trying to connect as opposed to the person hosting!)

If the first solution doesnt work after one or two tries, the resetting of the router works for us 99% of the time!

Other than this, perseverance is the key!!!

Do you happen to have a bt home hub?

After trawling through hundreds of posts on the problem it came down to the home hub and some other routers and the way they forwards ports. It seems that it doesn't forward them correctly in a way that your computer will see, i found using a simple java port mapper solved the problem for me when i had a home hub.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20403/PortMapper-1.5.jar *edit <<<thats a link to the port mapping java applet i used, you do have to save and download it to run.

To make this work make sure UpnP is enabled on your router, then simply click connect and it should find any current mappings for your router.

If it doesn't show 6112 as forwarded to you create a port mapping present on the right forwarding 6112 udp to your ip.

This worked flawlessly for me for years till we switched routers, hopefully it will work the same for you.

i don't have a homehub
i have a netgear

today i took my router and my computer to a third persons house, changed nothing at all on the router or the computer and could connect instantly

Take the router and computer back home and Nat negotiation error

The only thing that's changed is my ISP so that MUST be the cause
only explination

and you try ringing orang up and telling them about their ports and they only read from their book how to open the ones on my router

"IT'S NOT MY ROUTERS PORTS YOU INDIAN FOOL AS IT WORKED INSTANTLY ON ANOTHER ISP, IT'S YOUR ISP PORTS!!"

and
What router do you have?

are you sure your forwarding port 6112 udp to your computers internal ip address?

yeah on the first post i mentioned ports were forwarded and we've tried dmz as well so ports are not the issue

To make this work make sure UpnP is enabled on your router, then simply click connect and it should find any current mappings for your router

and yeah the firs post explains upnp is enabled

I'm telling you - its completely random!!

Me and my mates have spent an hour before it finally working perfectly for absolutely no reason!

No BT home hub here, just a regular router!

Perseverance is the key and following my steps above has worked the vast majority of the time for us!

I just tried everything you mentioned and nothing =(

As it randomly started overnight one night, I'm praying it'll randomly stop over night one night too

But from my experience today taking my router and comp to someone elses house and connecting instantly - i can safely assume it's an orange ISP issue. after 4 indians, and one brit (who understood instantly) they will look into it. Apparently there's another exact case of this in my local area reported 1 week ago...

I have the same problem. Scanned the internet for ages for a fix. Eventually stumbled upon the below and it works brilliantly. I hope this helps.

i will deffinitly give that a go!!
I'll post up the results as soon as i know

May be a delay though as my computer randomly reboots it's self atm and it's a suspected gpu fault...but that's a seperate issue

It's a bit of a dark art I am afraid. I fixed it with one of the settings on my router but I've forgotten which, sorry! It's definately fixable though, I read about port forwarding but that wasn't how I fixed it, something to do with P2P something or other and it worked a treat.

it's not JUST COH though...it's dawn of war 2, windows live chat, splintercell conviction coop
anything multi player on the comp, but we can voice chat through steam...

AND i can connect wit everyone else just fine, just the one person i want to connect with, we have nat issues

i've taken the router and my comp to a 3rd persons house and (without changing anything, except the user name and passowrd on the router) we can connect instantly =S
