Hay all.

I got the THQ Complete Pack a while ago and i have been playing a lot of dawn of war 1 with my m8 who also has the pack as well.

But i forgot about i had company of heroes + all the addons lol

Is the base building like down of war 1 or is it more like number 2 with only a few building ?

I can't down load it until tonight :(

Thanks.

More like DoW1 - quite similar, actually. I hated the shortcomings of DoW2 in the base-building department - I'm not much of an online gamer, I play games mostly for single-player or occasionally LAN (co-op where possible) and the campaign in DoW2 was too on-the-rails for my tastes. If it'd included a risk-style map conquest like the Necron expansion for DoW1 I would still have it installed on my computer - that was my favourite game mode by far, especially with the RPG-style powering-up of your avatar.

If anyone's got any good suggestions for games in that vein, call my attention to them.

Thanks i will be downloading that later for sure if its like dow 1 :D

Also have you played supreme commander forged alliance i love that game.

But it takes a while to get into a fight and win the game some times and thats just me vs AI lol.

Cheers.

The first SupCom was awesome - put me in mind of Total Annihilation, arguably the best RTS ever made (arguably). I have to say, Company of Heroes is definitely one of my favourite RTS games. It's still got a huge following if online is your thing, the campaigns (especially with the expansions) are pretty huge and immersive, considering how old it is it still looks fantastic - I had this game a few months after release, and when zhe Ghermans blew a chunk out of the building I had my guys holed up in and one of them appeared at the gap to take cover and fire out I actually peed a little. Now, if this game had a conquest mode like Dark Crusade, I doubt I'd ever see the light of day again.

Edit: The second SupCom is rubbish. I don't care what people say, it was a huge letdown.

I totally agree with all of the above. I'm going to have to tryCompany of Heroes. Anyone know if its available on steam?

Yeah i got Company of Heroes pack from steam when the summer sale was on and never installed it lol

I did have a look at supcom 2 but seems to be made with consoles in mind :(

I will stay with supcom FA until supcom 3 but i think thats going to be same as supcom 2 :(

It definitely, definitely is, but I can't tell you how much at the moment because I can't access Steam at work. My advice would be to check out the THQ pack mentioned above to see how many of the games in it you already have, and of the games you have how many you would like to have on Steam as well. It's one of the better pack deals, great range of games and it's frequently on sale - I picked mine up for £26 about 18 months ago, and there are more games in it now. If you're only interested in CoH, make sure you get the gold one - at least with the first expansion. the second expansion doesn't add enough quality to be worth any serious price difference, but if you can geet both expansions with the original game without bumping the price up too much you might as well get it all in one.

It's £6.99 and the 2 expansions are £9.99 each. It'll be down to a few quid in the next sale if you can wait :D

company of heroes for me is the best rts game ever made amazing when you think this came out in 2006.

This is a great game, takes a bit getting into (I hated it at first) but now I regularly have epic 1hr+ battles :D

Also, graphics are still very nice. It's also DX10 enabled.

Coh is an awesome game. But it is definitely NOT a base building game... its the ANTI base building RTS.

I was gonna say, I remember virtually sod all base building in this, especially in SP, half the missions you're given a small squad and the challenge is progressing far enough to establish a base without losing any men. After that, there isn't really any base building, just establishing a basic HQ.

This game is all about the combat and the strategy of combat, the bases are there for no reason other than to stop it being impossible really :p

You do get emplacements/fortifications, the light and heavy vehicle facilities, barracks, support centre, supply yard and HQ as far as base buildings go. There's also the upgrade tree and command points for support options.

Personally I think Combat Mission did company-battalion level combat better. Tanks in CoH have health bars for crying out loud :p I know there's a need for balancing, but having Shermans take multiple hits from Tiger tanks is plain stupid.

Well if there some its better then nothing :)

I give it a shot as i got it with the THQ pack anyways .

should be all downloaded tonight :D

Any good new rts coming out soon ?
