Compaq laptop processor update

I have a Compaq presario A975EM which I plan to upgrade in some way. It looks as if it has the maximum amount of RAM that it can get and a hard drive replacement is impossible as it is SATA I. So I thought I could get a processor update. It currently has a Intel pentium dual core processor which is a LGA 1155 slot. Could I get an Intel i7 2600k in there or not. Would the battery not be able to take this on.

Any help would be great

Thanks.

You can change the CPU in most laptops.

In your laptop you have a PPGA478 socket CPU so you can only upgrade it to one on that socket.

I don't know where you found out it was a LGA1155 CPU.

Trouble with updating a CPU in a laptop is you can never be 100% sure in what the fan will be able to cool. Generally speaking it is not common practise to update a laptop cpu.

Hi there,

May I ask what CPU you currently have in your laptop (you can check this by opening up CPU-Z)?

As jamesfreddie said, your laptop uses a PPGA478/socket M - so at the very most it can only use CPUs which use that socket (so basically Core 2 Duos up to the T7600). That said, you need the BIOS to support the CPU as well.
