Are compaq laptops and notebooks generally good or bad ?

Mine is fine, not overheating, reliable, but the battery's dead after 6 years, but then again this is a pentium 3, I have no idea about newer ones, but mine is good.

Compaq are now under HP, sold as their Presario range, I've not heard anything notably wrong with them.

I've been told to avoid onboard Intel GMA 950 graphics as it's not very good with media and games is that true ?

Video should be fine, games however... well I wouldn't bother trying with anything newer than the original CoD and even then at low settings.
