Ive been thinking about upgrading my hardrive for awhile now.. Ive been using this 80gb Maxtor for well over 2 1/2 years now, which was out of my 1st pc ( A sempron 2000+ :p ) Also its a IDE hd.

Its being used as my main drive with Os and Apps on it.. My other 120gb Maxtor stores the games.

Anywho i ran HD tune on it and here are my results.

There probably poor in comparison to modern, sata hard drives.. But what do you think ? Ive never ran this program before. Or even bothered much about my Hd's ( As you can tell by the fact its the only thing left in my pc from when i bought my 1st machine ). The 120gb maxtor also scored more or less the same just without that big dip at 20%.

As for the upgrade im thinking this:

Perhaps do some partitions ( never done some before ) and have 100gb for OS and Apps, 150gb for Storage and 150gb for Games. And flog the older hard drives..

Would i see a decent boost in my bootup speeds ? Variuos loading etc etc.

I had the exact same Maxtor hard drive, and I upgraded to a 250GB Seagate with 8MB Cache. I used to get around your scores, and now I get around 70MB a sec as a max, instead of 58 ish.

If you can afford it I'd go for it, but I never really thought the Maxtor was too bad, I just went for the peace of mind of not relying on a 3 year old HDD lol.

If you want peace of mind mattyprice, you should get another 250gb and run your system in RAID 1. I got 2x500gb the other month and am running them in RAID 1 as they was £73 each for the 7200.9 16mb cache model.
