compared to a ps3?

Lol.... You can't compare a console to a PC like for like. So there's no point in trying.

Whenever you see a thread asking to compare a console to a PC, it ALWAYS turns into a flame war. I'm surprised Zefan didn't just close it the moment he saw it.

If I run a cross-platform title on my TV in 720p with my PC and my Xbox 360, and it plays better and looks nicer on one than on the other, then I say it's a fair comparison. :)

and if it plays worse on the "better" platform - is it still a fair comparison?

everybody knows a decent pc will comfortable out do a console, but the problem is writing the software. if everything was written perfectly then there'd be no confusion - pc's would be better. but as that plainly isnt the case, i say its not worth compairing them at all as you cant define any point where a pc is obviously better than a console:)

the only thing you can compare, is that cross platform title running on different platforms, not the platforms it running on.

Depends on how you define better. If you mean technically better then the PC is obviously the superior machine and that's why we pay top dollar for them, but a lot of PC games are crappy ports these days which is why I got an Xbox 360 in the first place. I can even forgive a lack of keyboard/mouse if the port is bad enough.

If a game is crap on the PC (GRAW etc.), or isn't on the PC at all, the Xbox 360 will be there for me. If a game is better on the PC (Oblivion etc.) or isn't on consoles at all then the PC will be there for me.

If a PS3 had enough exclusive titles that interested me, even remotely, I'd have one of those too. Wii also.

I agree, but you're not going to play a title on a machine it's crap on. At least I'm not.

This is why I've not put in my Assassin's Creed pre-order yet, I'm waiting to see if it's a crap enough port on the PC to justify paying the extra money for the console version. My magic 8-ball is leaning toward "very likely" at the moment. Alternatively my Jericho pre-order is in for the PC. Having tried both of the demos, you couldn't pay me to play it on the 360.

Forget the 'you can't compare a console to a PC' mantra. Just to emphasise what a joke the statement is check out how often it's immediately followed by 'the PC is better' in this thread!

I think the obvious time to compare the two is when they're running the same game. For Bioshock or Oblivion the 360 gives pretty good bang for buck compared to building a PC that will run it them comparably (I'm talking full build including essential like the OS -gotta be over £400).

You may argue that you can't do your homework on the 360 or PS3. Whatever. Get a cheap 2nd hand PC with the leftover change. Job done.

I agree with everything you say except this, I think both of those games are way better on the PC. :p

Most people don't spend as much on their PC as me though so for them it's a toss-up really, or if their PC is really sub-par then the console is an obvious choice.

You couldn't pay me to play those two games on consoles though. I'd miss the modability of Oblivion and I'd miss keyboard and mouse in Bioshock (not that I really liked Bioshock, I mean I only played the demo.)

Overall - yes I'd rather play those two on a PC. Bear in mind OCUK lists the 360 Premium for £258.49. I'd rather play them on the 360 than a new PC costing that much. Don't even want to think about the price of the Core...

I got an Elite, just to play exclusives and avoid crap ports lol. :o

It's alway the same as the console gets older the games get better, but the pc moves on if 5 years orso is the consoles life in that time the power of a pc grown a lot.
360 got what 2 or 3 years left?,not sure on the ps3 what cpu's and gpu's will we be buying then they will make 360 and ps3 look old until the 720 and ps4 is out and the cycle starts again.

Ps3 hardware ability good yes....but by the time designers get to grips with it the Ps4 will be on the market.

Much like building a rocket that is capable of going to mars but decide to send it to the moon instead!

also remember

Games have been released on the Ps3 and Xb360 that wouldn't run at the quoted resolutions :( and the same applies to Pc but that tends to be bad coding, is this the same for the console.

Xbox360 :(
PS3 :(
Hitting your m8 in the face after scoring into you and pretending you were swinging to hit a ball in Tennis on the Wii - Priceless. For everything else there's mastercard ;).
