I think they will do very well, at least in the short term, if Intel concentrate on supplying OEM's first. This will mean hardly any Conroe CPU's available to the public and those that do make it, will be going at a very inflated price. On the other hand, plenty of very cheap AMD's offering amazing bang-for-buck performance.fenderbass86 said:I don't think the price slashing from AMD will do much tbh, if it's happening the day after conroe. Too many people want to get their hands on a Conroe, me included.

what, is that fact?, how much would it cost to buy a new mobo a 2.66 and 2 gigs of ram?speeduk said:I am no intel fanboy and I am very excited for conroe.
The 2.66ghz one is equiv to a 3.2ghz FX60. They should clock to 3.2ghz fairly easily on air and thats equiv to about a 3.6ghz FX and will be stupidly fast.
And the price will be very much cheaper than the FX60 (unless AMD slash prices).

Intel have a killer chip on their hands, moaning won't change that. You expect us to sit around talking about "old school" socket 939? I don't think so. Of course there's going to be hype about Conroe...it whoops everything AMD offers at a fraction of the price. People need to give Conroe some slack and stop being grumpy about it. I bet if you were hypothetically upgrading your entire PC next month, you would buy Conroe and not socket 939
And don't forget that a lot of people don't even have 939 rigs and are still using older rigs. Obviously you'd buy Conroe because it has a better price/performance ratio. Besides, most people with 939 rigs can sell their current gear and switch to latest cutting-edge gear without spending too much money. Enthusiasts like bleeding-edge. Conroe is bleeding-edge, socket 939 is not.
And I'm not a fanboy, I own and use AMD and Intel CPUs.
