Ok so i am thinking of buying the Titan Xenomorph gaming pc soon and its default GPU upgrade is this:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-142-OK&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1854

and im looking at this:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-009-HS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1515

And they're nearly the same price but the ATI has around 600 more processing cores, a much higher core clock rate and memory clock but the Nvidia has a shader clock and memory interface..? im really confused. Please can anybody tell me which one is better and why? Nvidia all have shader clocks etc. and i dont understand what makes them good or better than ATI in some cases because by that example its worse surely?

Plus if anybody could give me an equivalent nvidia GPU which is about the same performance / power as the ATI so i can get an idea of how i know what im looking for in Nvidia?

Thank you so much!!

For entry level, GTX460 768MB is currently the most bang for bucks, making the cards below it doesn't look as great in terms of value for money.

Here's a quick comparison between 5770 1GB and GTX460 768MB:

And one more thing you should take note is that specs do not always reflect the actual performance accurately, always use reviews and benchmark for comparison between cards (the Andandtech site I posted above is a good site for quick comparison between graphic cards).

If you are picking up a GTX460 768MB, I'd suggest you to get the MSI Cyclone:

thank you so much!!!! i've fiddled with this Andandtech for a while and that MSI 460 is amazing!! just what i was looking for!! thank you so much Marine :D

You are welcomed. I remember years ago I was like you, thinking that big numbers on core speed, memory size etc. equal better performance. While it is no "wrong", it was until later I learned that what matter the most is the design or architecture- 1,000GHz core speed on a crapply designed GPU with cheap 1GB DDR2 RAMS (instead of GDDR5 RAMS) would still be a crappy card :D

Just to warn you that if you are going for the GTX460 768MB, don't be tempted to go Palit for the sake of saving a few pounds. Their cooler is known to have high chance of being noisy, and the cooling is pretty poor comparing to MSI Cyclone. MSI Cyclone is known to be good cooling, and very quiet.

And after to get the card, download MSI Afterburner. It has lots of useful feature, such as displaying GPU temp, GPU usage, memory usage on screen at a corner of your choice during gaming, and you can use it for setting fan profile (if you wish), and the most important feature...overclocking the graphic card :P

The default core speed on the MSI Cyclone is 725MHz, but you should be able to overclock it to at least 800MHz without needing to increase voltage. Memory clock should be able to overclock from 3600MHZ to at least 4000MHz without problem as well.

I'll be sure to remember. I'll probably go for the GTX460 768MB, I used that Andandtech and the comparisons where just unbeleivable! I compared the GTX460 to the ATI 5870 and they're incredibly close! they split by a tiny bit but im just amazed! plus the 460 has better cooling, less power usage and slightly quieter. Will definatly consider going for the MSI Cyclone. Thanks again.
