Hi there,

The company I work out, are looking at upgrading several of their systems and I was wondering, would DDR2 ram work with a CPU such as an Intel Celeron 2.8 D336. Aslong as the motherboard supports it.. Im saying this because the DDR2 ram is currently cheaper than DDR and the CPU can easily be upgraded in the future without having to get new ram too. Ive seen many computer shops sell such a CPU with DDR2 ram installed, but I just wanted to know for sure.

Im only asking this because they are on a rather tight budget and dont need much processing power (yet) hence the need for a few Celerons. Would you believe this company has their PC's running on Celerons 1.1ghz CPU's and SDram lol. Im just thinking for the future and not just for now.

Thanks!

On the Intel side the RAM required is wholly determined by the motherboard. On the AMD side the memory controller is integrated onto the CPU itself so their CPUs do require a particular type of RAM. Pretty much any recent Intel motherboard will take DDR2 RAM.

So If i understand that correctly, I can indeed use DDR2 ram with a Celeron CPU, aslong as the motherboard supports it. If so, great, thanks a bunch! :D
