Ive just upgraded my epson c44 printer to a epson dx4800,, And the big question will £3 compatable inks damage my printer. the genuine inks are £5.50, or I think there genuine cos the pic of the inks look it

Personally I wouldn't do it with an Epson unless you are prepared to consider the printer as a disposable item, which with the cost of the printers these days you may well be willing to do.

The risk with the Epsons is that unlike some others, the printhead is fixed in the printer and it is not changed with the cartridge so if you do get a problem it can be cheaper to just buy a new printer than it is to get the heads changed.

Check for reviews of the particular ink you intend to buy as some do seem to be OK but it will always be a risk.

Ive used compatible ink carts for 2 years now in this Printer.

Offical carts are £34:99 these are £4:99 even if they last only 1 quater of the time its so worth it.

With Epsons these days if you save say £25 per ink set using compatibles you've broken even on the cost of a new printer inside of 3 ink changes (R200/220/300/320 ink sets cost about £10 for compatibles or about £45 for originals).

I used compatibles in my 660 without any problems for at least 4 years (and maybe half a dozen changes saving about twice the cost of the printer).

I just buy official carts, compatibles jam the print heads and last half as long, with the amount of compatibles you buy you end up spending as much as the buying the official ones in the first place.

I've got a rather old Cannon i250 Ink jet and have been using compatible inks for about a year and a half now. They're just as good if not identical to the official cannon ones.

I can't recall how much the official ones cost because it's been so long. I've also bought in advance quite a lot of color carts as well as black ones. Enough to last me ages :)

I have an Epson Photo 950 (£300 when bought) and I use compatibles in it.

The only thing I have to do is about once a year run some cleaning cartridges through it - keeps it going nicely (cartridges and cleaning carts are 99p each, so £7 a pop, compared to £12 for each of the original carts)

I pay £2.50 for a full set of ink for my DX3800, prints fine, but its annoying that it tells me im not using original ink everytime i print

Back in the days of olivetti before i could get compatible inks i paid £29 for a JP192 colour inkjet. When the ink ran out, i purchaced another printer as it was cheaper than ink. At one point i had 4 brand new printers in my room :p

Ive used compatables for years with no probs on 750 photo,810 photo,r300 photo i was told a few years ago that there are only 3 manufacturers of inks
