Compatibility issues

Is there a resource for checking the compatibility of hardware like motherboards with CPU's etc as I am going to be upgrading some machines and they could all be different specifications?

Best way is to find the motherboard model number and check the manufacturers site. They'll have specifications so you can check what RAM they'll take and CPU lists of what the board can take and if the board needs a BIOS upgrade to accept the new chips.

Are they retail mobos or OEM? I upgraded about 25 assorted machines for a charity a few years ago. Learnt the hard way that just because 2 Dells have the same model number does not mean they have the same mobo
