"Compatible" batteries vs. OEM?

I had a 3rd party battery fail badly and nearly damage the camera. A friends camera was destroyed by a 3rd party battery.

And when it was working it gave less shots than the official Nikon.

I stick to Nikon official batteries now as the risk just isn't worth it.

Perhaps, but if you need two back-up batteries for the occassion the two OEMs are already used then I can't see a problem so long as your buying branded (like duracell) stuff.

Like I said £260 for two OEM batteries versus £75 for two Lenmar ones. That's a lot of money for something that's only used as a secondary back-up.

theres a shop that has a number of days in its name, they offer 3rd party canon batteries that are cheaper and have a longer life than the originals.

I'd never use cheap batteries for my Z1E but might look at ones for my cheapish CX105E.

Its the same for tapes for the Z1, the proper Sony ones are £10 each or you could get a £4 one. I mean whats the point I've spent £1000s on the camera only to give it rubbish media.

As a backup/emergency I would just it as a one off though.
