Competition to win an exclusive Overclockers UK Goodie Bag!

IMO.

The 2 best technically are:
Emphacy
gord

BUT, I ask myself, would I actually use them? Technically they are the best from a design perspective, but imo I wouldn't use them as a wallpaper, because they don't look like wallpapers to me. They look brilliant, don't get me wrong, but I don't think they suit wallpapers.
The 3 that do are:
Shogan
DJmartin
1LANCS

They have a great use of space, text, colours, and the effects are more subtle, with the 2 best technically I think maybe it's too much for your eyes to take in at once and it draws your eyes away from what you're doing, and a wallpaper is meant to be just a background which blends in to your normal viewing. Emphacy and gord's are the type you see first time and think "Wow, that's great!", but if you saw it every day it would get a bit boring quickly.

Like I said, just my opinion, but great entries none-the-less.

I wouldn't say that's true. I had a good look through the wallpapers thread to see what people were using here and it is either a) female, b) a render or c) their photos. That's why I started off with standard, simple wallpaper designs and transitioned to more complex scenes.

I must admit though, I'm not using my latter ones. I'm using my plain logo one..

Of course, it's only my opinion. I prefer mainly simple wallpapers, 3D renders aren't as widely used as wallpapers as much as other things, though.

I just wanted to add my 2c, it's not like my opinion will have a baring on who wins :p

Not holding my breath! Some amazing entries - a bit unfair when design professionals are posting entries against us noobs! But that's life :)

Design professionals, hahaha, no way, I only started using the software half a year ago for a design project. I wish I was a professional, some of the things they can do is unbelievable. :(

I agree mine isn't really wallpaper type, but it's the best I could come up with, my creativity level far exceeds my imagination.
DJMartin's is quite something, Its simplistic yet it just works, if you know what I mean.

To be honest, all the entries are absolutely amazing so it will not just be myself who will be picking the winner. I will ask other staff here at Overclockers UK and also we have representatives from Samsung with us on Monday and they can assist in the selection process. :)

See if you can get them to throw in a nice LED monitor as well :P

Having mine mentioned by two people has actually made my day :D

I don't even care if I don't win, I was a little disappointed that mine didn't really get any feedback when I first posted but the fact that someone with the skills of Emphacy has mentioned mine has really made me happy :) :) :)

And to add my own opinion, I think a lot of people are now going anti-gord due to his recent wallpaper. I would agree that while technically insane it really isn't wallpaper material but some of his earlier designs, the first one being my favourite are really something.

I missed yours to be honest but it's not like I have commented on everyone's designs anyway. I think that yours was technically there, it just wasn't executed very well, the model of the screen is great and I like the touch of the link being where the brand name would usually be. Its just the logo that really puts me off, I think the text would benefit from not being semi transparent. I also don't really understand how the 'clock' part of the logo is orientated, it looks a bit off to me. Still it's better than I could do in a 3D program.
I think if you had looked at it critically and seen some of the flaws in the logo, fixed them and possibly even darkened the lighting slightly yours could have been a top contender. I suppose it is all a learning process though. Makes me want to learn 3DSmax or a program of the sort. What did you use for yours?

Also I just thought, maybe making it a 16:9 resolution would have made it look more like a background, a bit too square for people looking at it on a widescreen monitor (most people I would imagine.)

Well thanks for the feedback, I think the cathodes wasn't done well at all. I didn't have much time so i'd just give it a go.

I used Cinema 4D as thats what I had in college, never tried 3DS Max.
