Death Star or Mount Doom, it depends on the day.
My mate has set me a task to try and spec a complete build for £800. Yes that's with a OS, mouse/keyboard and monitor. I said he needs to spend a £1000 but he can't stretch that far.

As I keep going over budget I thought I'd ask for help.

I'm going with a AMD build as it is cheaper and I've been looking at the AMD FX-8350 and the AMD 470 GPU. DDR4 ram is quite expensive especially for 16gb.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would really wait and see what the prices for the new AMD Ryzen parts are going to be before diving in with this. I wouldn't advise going with current AMD hardware as it will be a dead platform come March

As above, WAIT! Do not attempt this with current AMD hardware given what will be available in a couple of weeks. You won't do it with Intel, so forget that. Ryzen will be your saviour. ;)

RAM is expensive, but when the MM re-opens you may get lucky on there, or just keep your eye out for deals, they do crop up. Wouldn't be surprised if there are some attractive Ryzen bundles on release also.

As above it would be worth to wait couple weeks, but think the above comments forget the 'finance' word in your title, is that something for OC or elsewhere as if it's elsewhere then who knows their level for new stock.

Wow. You really did it. I'm just reading about that processor now on eurogamer. Not a bad little cpu for the cost. Thank you for your efforts.

That's not a bad little setup at all, but if it can be done, I'd drop to a 470 4gb and see if that saving and the remainder of the budget could get you onto the entry level i5's. The dual-core pentium, while an awesome chip for the price will likely hold back that 480. You won't lose that much GPU grunt going for the 470, it OCs reasonably well, and the full 4 cores of an entry level i5 will see your minimum frame rates consistently higher.

A little over-budget sadly, but not much!

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £825.74
(includes shipping: £0.00)

**EDIT** But I would *really* try and convince him to wait! We're probably only looking at few weeks at most before RyZen releases, and if nothing else, AMD's new release could have a shake up on market pricing if there's actually substance to the recent leaks.

If they really dont want to wait I think this is doable as long as you are happy to cut the cost in the areas that dont affect he core spec. You can do a latest gen core i5-7400 with a new nVidia GTX 1050 for this price. Assuming he can find the extra £15 you can even keep an SSD

i5s are pointless now with Ryzen coming out very soon, and way too expensive. The 480 and the G4560 will be fine together, I had the 480 with an i3 6100 and it was great. I would never ever buy an i5 in 2017, it just seems like wasted money.

Don't pay silly money for windows, as said, a key can bought for £20. Wait for RYZEN or get the pentium now and then save up or the i5
