Help Complete my system?

HI... I need a bit of advice on completing my new system.

I've just got a Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe WIFI-AP + Athlon 64 4600 AM2.

Now i need some DDR2 memory and a graphics card. Memory wise i am thinking about the Corsair 1GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 pair, which looks good. But i am stumped on the gfx card.

Budget is limited; firstly i was looking at 7600gt in SLI, but kinda eliminates the upgrade potential. Then i was looking at 1 x 7900gt card, upgradeable. But now I’ve seen the 7900 GS card.....

So.... Spend the extra bucks and get 7900GT or is GS ok?
Looking at 1gb 'matched pair', or should a get a single 1GB module (same specs) and buy another module when i have more cash?

I tend to upgrade every 3-4 years lol. So i like to get it right first time :)

Any help / advice would be much appreciated. I reckon i can push £150 on the memory and £250 on the card. But any serious persuasion might increase my budget.

Welcome to the forums. Given what you have stated your budget as (~£400 for both) I'd be going for something like this, 2gb of good quality Ram and the X1900XT is a superior card to the 7900gt.

Any particular reason you are going for an AM2 system? Something like a Conroe 6400 and Gigabyte DS3 will be cheaper, faster and probably overclock better to boot.

Thanks for the feedback I thought this would happen. :p

I’ve already got the mobo and cpu. It's been AGES since i've looked at getting a new PC (4 years). I guess i got those two components on brand loyalty alone. Anyway, compared to what I have now, what I’ve purchased is going to be a big leap. I am happy.

I must admit, the ATI Radeon X1900 XT looks very nice! Like I said, any serious persuasion! I might ignore the nvidia route altogether. Thought the memory on my mobo had to be 6400+?

But seeing as I upgrade so infrequently, would I be better off getting a decent nvidia card and then look at the SLI option later should I need to?
Ta for the welcome. :)

If you already have them then don't worry about it, it will be a huge jump whatever you got.

I think you will be fine with PC5300 and that system but if not you could consider the X1900XT 256mb which is still faster than the 7900gt and get some PC6400 Ram with the money saved.
