Hey guys

As the title suggests i basically know nothing about computer hardware and the like, however i want to have a go at building a gaming rig in the near future. I'm not really looking for a spec yet just some advice and answers for now.:)

I'll probably have around £1000 to throw into it when the time comes and am looking to run the latest games maxed out ideally. My main question at the moment is would it be a good idea to SLI for my first build considering the lack of knowledge i already pocess or will this be to hard a task for a first timer? are there any noob friendly SLI guides out there to follow?

I did other questions but at the time of writing i've forgotten :P what would you guys recommend i do for my first build?

Thanks in advance.:)

Hi and welcome
SLi is not hard, but I wouldnt build a new build around one, you could go for a build which gives you the option of going SLi later though
Also to clarify, what do you need in your £1000? Is it just the tower? or do you need full system? eg monitor, kb/mouse/speakers OS etc?

Ah yes, that would be a much better option as i will want the option for SLI in the future. I have everything such as monitor kb/m etc. it's only the rig i'm after and looking to build in a couple of months, just want to get an idea and some knowledge before i dive in.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Edit: I'm thinking something like
Zotac ZT-50101-10P GF GTX 580 1536MB GDDR5 Graphics Card
then buying a second for SLi later down the line when they become cheaper?

rule one is, don't link to external competitors websites.
rule two is, DON'T LINK TO EXTERNAL COPETITORS WEBSITES!!! :)

And here lies the dilemma. A single 580 or two 6950 / GTX570's? IMO, you will be better served by a single 570 / 6970 with that budget. While keeping room for another one, although it is often the case than you will be dropping SLI in favour of selling your old card and getting a newer one instead.

oops, sorry. edited out :p

would it not be better to SLi 580s? i won't be able to straight away but like i said, i could put one in to start with then save for a second to add later. Or do AMD cards have more bang for buck in SLi?

Thanks for the spec.

So i shouldn't bother with SLi then, just a 580 then upgrade with the next gen GPUs?
Will a 580 be good enough to max out games at solid FPS til then? Also does does the spec above have the option for SLi just incase?

Sorry for all the questions. :p

Well i think that's all for now then. :)

Thanks a lot for your help mate, much appreciated.
