Hiya guy's

I've been toying with the idea of overclocking for sometime and have found some settings on a well known website to allow a 4Ghz Overclock on my mobo, which on my board is apparantly very easily achievable... but I'm just a little concerned with temperatures as if I kill anything, I can't afford to replace it at the moment...

I've downloaded Speedfan and at stock speeds it shows my temps as:

Temp 1: 30C
Temp 2: 48C
Core 0: 42C
Core 1: 42C
Core 2: 39C
Core 3: 39C
Core 4: 40C
Core 5: 40C

Now my spec's are:

Intel Core i7 920 D0 @ 2.66Ghz,
Noctua NH-U12P,
Foxconn Renaissance Mobo,
Radeon HD 4870 1024MB,
OCZ Gold 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 Low-Voltage Triple Channel, Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB SATA-II 32MB Cache,
LG GH22NS40 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black),
Coolermaster Real Power 620w,
Antec 900-2

Basically what I want to know is are my stock temps anything to be concerned about with me planning to overclock to 4GHz? As to a noob like me they seem a little high!

Rather then go for the 4ghz speed straight off why don't you do it in increments that way you'll be able to monitor temps yourself and decide what if any overclock your comfortable with. Get some good fans and i would imagine you would be fine but if in doubt take your time do it slow and have the peace of mind. If nothing else doing it step by step will give you a better understanding of overclocking rather then just copying settings from a website good knowledge to have in the future.

download intel burn test and run that, see what temps you get when its under load before you start overclocking.

what sort of temp is the room with the pc in ?

might be worth dropping the side of the case off to see if the temps drop, if it only drops 1-2 degrees then your ok, if it drops 4-5 check your cabling is as tidy as you can get it and that all the case fans are working okay.

Thank's RizlaKing,

Now I may be having a complete brain fart but when ive looked at the Begginer's guide to Overclocking here and similar guides on other sites they talk about upping the FSB etc... my mobo does not seem to have such an option so it leaves me stumped as to what to do

On Intel board BCLCK is the same as "bus speed". You need to find some specific guides for i7 chips and X58 motherboards as the technique is pretty specific. Watch your RAM speed, because it will cause problems long before anything else. And it's your load temps which matter rather than idle temps. Run Prime95 in Mixed mode for an hour to get an idea. At default speed it should stay below 70oC. The lower the better.
