Complete NOOB, would like advice

hey :) they were all around 61 - 65 near the end of the test, might push for 4.2, see what temps I get and go for 4.4 later, atm watching the ASUS ROG starcraft tourney on twitch.tv (if you were interested :p )

what temps should be the max? I have seen 80 has been the limit for some people, what what does anyone still reading this thread think? :p

80 is a little hot but it is safe. It shouldn't really get that hot unless you're pushing for really high clock speeds though and if it is, it could be a sign that the CPU need re-seating if you're around this temperature at a fairly moderate overclock.

70c is the usual temperature people are happy not to exceed. With at least one good fan blowing cold air in and one good fan blowing hot air out, I don't think you should be much over 70c all the way up to around the 4.5ghz mark.

If your temperatures are high and your cooling set up in your case is OK then look to decrease the voltages from auto if they're on this setting.

1.35V vcore is the standard point for 4.5ghz and you should get this relatively easily.

Trial and error are the buzzwords when overclocking :-)

Good luck!

p.s. if you use prime your temperatures after 10 minutes aren't that useful - leave it for at least 30 minutes and check them then.

I use OCCT to test it, usually for half an hour to get a good read :) while using core temp and keep an eye on the temps

ok, just done a half an hour test for 4.4, max temp was 72C, while the lowest was 65C, I think these sound pretty good, what do you think? :]

From what I have read 72.6 degrees is the max cpu case temp but you will be measuring the core temps I guess (which will read slightly higher).

Was this on auto volts?
