Hey guys,

I heard it is possible to get wireless broadband without the need for a BT land line? Apparently you can use a mobile broadband 'dongle' and use that in conjunction with a special type of router, which in theory works the same as a regular router, sounds pretty good if it is at all possible!

Anyone know more about it?

Thanks.

Can do, but the caps are ridiculous, the cost per month expensive and the speeds very variable. 3G/HSDPA internet access should really be reserved only for when you're really mobile in my opinion.

I'd agree with the above, it does exist and it's a very cool gadget but it's too fickle and too expensive to ever replace a good copper pair right now.
The routers are a nice touch to complete the technology but seem somewhat redundant as if you are mobile why would you need one? sharing internet between a couple of colleagues in adjacent hotel rooms or something can be done just as easily with the dongle and ad hoc wifi coupled with connection sharing.

It's kind of like what satnav was 5-8 years ago. A quite expensive gadget that has a nice novelty about it but is still relatively too infent a technology to become mainstream.
