Hi guys, bear with me.

I want to go wireless and obviously being in OCUK want the very best, fastest wireless mankind has currently invented! The strange thing is that the laptop will always, 100% be used in exactly the same position.

Now, I have already kind of decided to replace my currently slow 'G' wireless router with one of these bad boys:

http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=459640

My question in on the LAPTOP side of things (my laptop has RJ45 connector and USB ports):

Should I be going for THIS usb thingy for the laptop side of things:

Or, bearing in mind I only care about speed, forget the USB port on the laptop and go for some n+ RJ45 to N+ wireless thing maybe like this (I know this exact one isn't N++ but its so you get the idea):

?

Remember mobility is not an issue the laptop will never change position. The only thing I care about is speed. RJ45 to wireless thingy, or USB wireless thingy? Or makes absolutely no difference?

Any help greatly appreciated.

If it was me and I'd replace the mini-PCI card in my laptop and avoid Belkin like the plague :)

Are you pushing that much data around your LAN that you'd benefit from wireless N?

HD video content, and my wife refuses absolutely point blank to have a huge ugly RJ45 cable strewn around the house (which would obviously give best results ...)

If the laptop is not going to change position in the house i'd use a powerline adapter. One next to the laptop and one next to the router. RJ45 from the router to the powerline and then RJ45 from the other powerline to the laptop.

this save trailing a huge cable around the house and you get the speeds of RJ45 (provided you buy a decent powerline adapter)

Rather than spending hundreds on wireless kit, spend the money on doing a proper cable run, hire an electrician if you need to.

I can't run plug socket thingies as they'd have to be plugged into 2 different 'ring mains' so the internet says it'd be shockingly slow :(

Electrician -- interesting thought actually .. if it's cheaper than wireless and faster, I'm thinking 'why not'

!

if you can entertain the thought of doing a cable run just do it yourself, i did one from the ground floor to the loft, i ran it through an existing pipe chase in the kitchen then through a void to a cupboard in the spare room and into the loft. took about 2 hours and some patience but got there in the end.

the internet was correct about that 5 years ago, today it doesn't impact speed, I can stream 1080p content from a server in my room to a PS3 in the living room while another PC in my room is deploying content from steam via a router in the dining room (3 home-plugs in total, switch in my room)
