Hey, I'm currently about to buy a Samsung R74 HDTV and an Xbox 360. A quick question though, which cable would you recommend for the best picture quality?
----- clip ------
I currently move my 360 between my monitor (dell 24" do hicky) and tv (tosh 56" dlp) and have compared the vga cables as well as the component. In all situations the component looks better then the vga.
when they first launched the vga cables, they had a serious brightness problem that washed out the colors in games. That problem seems to have been fixed on some of the main resolutions, but is still there in some of the non-standard resolutions.
Here is a cnet comparison, just look at the difference in colours between the component and vga cables:
if you look on avforums somewhere theres a post about which cable for which TV.
I have component and VGA cables for my Hyundai A321, and i think the VGA looks a lot nicer and crisper than the component.
Just a pain in the ass as it only has 1 VGA port on the TV
I have the same combo and use the official Microsoft VGA cable and was impressed with the picture quality. Would definitely recommend the VGA cable connection. The screen runs at 1360x768 @60Hz, make sure you turn on Game Mode as well. If you try and run at 720p then the screen disappears and you get a message back saying not supported by screen.
How many of you that are trying to distinguish the difference between component and VGA have reconfigured your screen for each cable?
I mean if you are just using the TV out of the box then you could be getting any results.
Ideally you should have a different configuration for all of your input devices. I know not every TV offers that so it I would recommend picking the one you use the most and stick with that.
