Component question

My new TV only has one component input but I want to connect both my wii and PS2 via component. Can you get a Y splitter type thing and not lose any quality?

I tried my ps2 through an rgb scart and it wasn't nearly as good.

Thanks for any help.
 
Hey, I had a similar problem, posted about it here. Cost more than I would have liked but the picture quality is excellent.

Didn't seem right to spend x amount on good sources just to plug them in to a cheap no-name splitter/switch.

Yes and no.
You can get a splitter, but ultimately you WILL lose quality, it's an analogue signal and it doesn't take much. Especially considering how cheap the component cables are for the Wii and PS2.
 
ok, interesting points. I think the switch maybe overkill as my 360 is happily on vga and I dont have anything else thats component.

nokkonwud when you say I will lose quality how bad will it be ? Unfortuantely I am using unofficial component cables for both. Though the wii one is pretty sturdy, the ps2 one is a shop brand cheapo one.
 
For around 5 months (up until last month) I (well, my Dad and I) used a very highly thought of Component switch box (a proper one, not the one linked in this thread) to a Sony KDEP42XS1 Plasma screen and Sky HD, via 2x QED Component Cables and 2x Black Rhodium optical cables, also included in the set up was a 3rd QED Component Cable to our DVD Player and a Nintendo Wii via Official Component (sorry if that all sounds complicated).

We were pretty happy with the HD picture, although I felt it had lost a good bit of clarity, sharpness and contrast immediately, it wasn't until we unplugged it all and used 1x QED Component cable directly from Sky to the TV that the obviousness of a clearly degraded image came through, it was total night and day.

Now the problem is, a lot of money were spent on those cables and switch box, they weren't your run of the mill switcher and cables, and if the picture worse on that, it's only going to be even worse on a lower quality cable and switch box.

Now you might not be too bothered, we weren't at first, as I said, we used it for around 5 months, it was only until we went back that it was how obvious the picture change was. However, if you're only using SD content via the switch box via Component, there is a very good chance you won't notice it, as it would be much more noticable through a HD source such as PS3, Xbox360 or Sky-HD.

It's just to me it's a proper one. I'll agree it's not high end but it's not a no-name $10 make either.

ok well, if I can find a cheap splitter I might just try that and see as the sd picture dsnt look that great on the tv anyway. Its odd that this 32" samsung only has one component where as my 19" dell (from years back) has 2.

zombie what is the connection on the far left of the box for ? I looks like the one on the back of a 360. Is it so you can vga out from the box and component a 360 into it using real 360 cables ? I dont get why wou wouldnt just go direct?
 
It's a proprietary xbox 360 connection. You get a cable with the switch, one end plugs into your xbox, the other into the switch box, then you have your component and audio leads coming from the other end of the switch into your tv. I think they've done it that way to make room for more connections on the box.
