Component upgrades?

Hello

Recently I started playing FPS games again, I dug out Farcry and remembered how I used to love saving the world from Aliens or Super villains, so I got Crysis, I hoped my new ATI card
would be great to run this, but I am seeing some tearing in the cut scenes, as the game progresses the I think my system starts to struggle, I am currently on a Huge Aircraft Carrier (in
Game) and some Trigger happy Admiral launched a Nuclear Missile at the Alien shield, from there as I go out to do battle the game seems to jump and freeze pretty drastically.

So...

I am here because my system is obviously outdated, It was purchased in September 2008 and at the time because I couldn’t justify spending lots of money on a good PC I just opted for a
Standard no frills system.

I am currently thinking about upgrading something but I’m not sure what, I did think about buying a more powerful GPU but when I look at my systems spec I think it might be a waste of
Money, I really don’t want to buy a new system I'd rather get into the habit of upgrading my own PC. I was looking at getting an overclocked bundle from Overclockers but I am not entirely
sure what to go for I am not even sure if it would help me run my games better, I want something for gaming preferably with enough juice to run in high settings.

So if anyone has some advice looking at my spec and having around £500-£1000 to spend, what would you buy?

Thank you for any info/help and also, thank you for reading.

Mark

What settings have you got it running on? Because it should be okay for it. And you got a 64 bit OS or 32? As 32bit only uses around 3gb of the 4gb ram :)

Hey

I have a 64 bit OS.

I do notice that the sceen seems to break up (grey speckled look) then it goes fine and clears up then the game just freezes up completely and the game locks seconds later. This usually happens like this -> start game -> load saved game -> Enter the game world -> fuzzy screen -> crash.
Oddly enough I tried loading other levels earlier in the game and they play fine. Having very limited computer knowledge I can only guess that my system is under extreme pressure, as soon as huge explosions happen on the Carrier in the game and the screen shakes like crazy my system really doesnt seem to like it or be able to cope, I noticed sometimes that I get small freezes there too.

Thanks for the reply

Sounds possibly like a graphics card problem? The 5830 should be fine unless you're playing with quite a high resolution with all the detail settings cranked up.

Maybe try running Furmark and see if your graphics card is okay with that.

My single 5830 manages alright at 1920x1200, just needs AA turned off and medium settings.

As for the tearing, have you turned Vsync on? Makes a massive difference in Crysis.

Hey

Cheers for the help

@ Muel, I will try Vsync and see how that goes, I am sure I have it running like that already but I will double check.

@ Ryan-3, I still have my old 7800GTX... I will try that too.

Thanks for the replies
