ok so i may have to conenct my dvd player by component video for best picture to my new tv due to lack of a spare rgb scart on back. anyway i assume you need the r g b component cables and seperate audio cables correct ???

also this will be connecting a dvd/video combi this unit will not be used to record tv or to watch tv it will only be used for dvd and odd bit of vcr playback. sooo will the component video be able to do all that or will i also need the standard tv aerail wire running from the video to the tv for the video picture ?

Dunno
Componant video should be a better picture as it is analogue hi def .

Do a bit of reading about the signals.

What people generally refer to as "RGB" and "Component" are actually different things.

Either way, they'll have seperate audio feeds.

By 'do all that' do you mean 'supply video imagery to you tv'? If so, yes, that will be fine. You may also be able to enable a 'progressive' scan output to further improve the signal.

The only downside compared to scart AFAIK is that the TV won't auto-switch to the DVD when playing - you'll need to manually select your AV channel.

Just for some clarification: Component cables are normally coloured coded red, green and blue - but they're not actually supplying an RGB signal.

Those pesky manufacturers love to confuse us masses... :)
