Afternoon all.

I have been reading through the forums, and there are a large number of spec me a PC threads. I know, I didn one as well. There does appear to be a lot of people in the know, who help others out with what component to choose over another.

So, I propose putting together a Top 5 Component (in each category) thread so that people can get everyones opinion all under one post rather than wait for people to respond to their individual post. Just hope it takes off, and doesnt disappear onto Page 3 within a day.

Categories are open to what everyone will need/want to set up a gaming PC.

Cpu: Intel core 2 duo E6600
Psu: Corsair 520/620 hx
Ram: GEiL PC 6400 ultra / Geil pc 6400 value/Crucial ballistix pc 5300/6400
Gpu : Nvidia 8800 Gts/7600 gt (on a budget)
Board: Gigabyte 965p Ds3 Rev 3.3/Abit quad gt/Asus commando
Hdd: WD 250 gb sata 300 (barracuda is gamble for noisy drive this fits between samsung and barracuda noise/speed ratio nicely)
DVDRW: Samsung serial Ata (black of course)

Cpu cooler:Tuniq tower 120/Scythe ninja rev b/Noctua NH U12f

My idea of the best in each category.

I'm going to only specify three categories as it depends entirely on the users budget and requirements. Graphics cards constantly change, RAM also and CPU would depends on budget and motherboard combination.

HDD: Samsung Spinpoint
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12F
Case Fan: Yate Loon (D12SL-12) 120mm

i think most peope will agree with my when i say:
- Core 2 Duo E6300 or E6600
- Scythe Ninja or Tunqi Tower
- Geil pc6400 2gig ram or OCZ pc2-6400 2gig Platinum
- Gigabyte ds3 or ds4
- Akasa eclipse 62 or lian li pc-7+ (depending on needs of size tbh)
- Corsair psu 520W or 620W

etc.

I don't want to pour cold water on this idea but it has been mooted in the past in various different ways such as set PCs for a variety of price points that offer the best value for money compared to their performance. However the prices change so fast and people don't tend to read stickies or posts that are to that effect so it might be wasted. :)
