Hello everyone,

I'm new here. I've asked for 3 companies to make a quotation for a front door and only one has responded. However, the price was £1560 including VAT. What should I do? I feel like not following up the two other companies as they seem interested (already messaged or enquired to them twice ).

Thanks

I mean you've stripped this question back to absolute fundamentals. You aren't even asking for advice on types of composite doors.

Pretty bizarre you need this level of support in your life.

I think you're right that not even getting a response from the other two companies doesn't really make you want to consider using them!

But at the same time, you don't want to go off with the one company with no frame of reference.

I'd be looking for further places to try to get a quote from.

My front door was a Rockdoor that cost a little bit more than that all in with fitting and VAT and my back door was a DoorStop one that was a little bit cheaper so your price seems OK.

i think if the door is in stock and your happy with the price you have your answer.

if however the door needs making , inquire about when it could be fitted and take a large pinch of salt.

we are still waiting for our door which im told is made but still requires some fittings which are either when asked,......still being made in germany, or on route from germany, or waiting for materials to make..... only 3 months since order , .

ours is a pretty basic upvc double glazed door , that the insurance are supplying, which we payed to increase security on. (not some fandango special super duper one)

we would have gone for composite (although told supply even worse) but were told the framework would not support the weight of the door and a new glazes frame would cost 4 grand more, we did ask 2 other specialists as i was suspect about excuse and was told the same. it would no doubt be fine for the short while but then need constant corrections as the frame would not support it.)

oh just been emailled was 1st of febuary for fitment now 1st of march (provisional) grrrrrr

Got a recent quote myself:

Quotation 1 - Composite front door

To supply and install a replacement composite door in "Magnum 8" style. Colour options shown below.

Set into a white uPVC frame and to be coupled to the existing sidelight.

Door glazed with 24mm satin finish (obscured) toughened double glazed sealed units (including warm edge spacers, argon gas filling and low E coating).

To include a high security multi point locking system with stainless steel, silver coloured handles and colour matched drip bar plus low threshold.

Total including materials & installation:

Coloured white inside & out: £1,480 inc VAT
Bespoke colour door slab externally and white internally: £1,625 inc VAT

£125 cheaper than getting a Solidor. I have now had 3 Quotes, from 3 different installers, all identical in price £1750 - on a door that costs the installer £450. I will give anyone but Solidor my business now. Going to install a Spitfire aluminium door instead.

I had a composite door fitted when I just had my windows installed last month. The window fitter I used said it was from a company called Prestige. Quality feels good but it's only been in a month. Plus it's still winter. It's in the summer you need to worry about composite doors as they are likely to expand or warp in the heat. Luckily mine is in a porch that doesn't get that much sun as it's north facing. I only got the door as the Mrs wanted one. I think it added about 1k to the price of the total with the windows and a new uPVC back door.

I had a composite door (Virtuoso Clifton) fitted a few months ago and paid £1,285 fitted

Fairly happy with it but did find in the hot months when the sun was hitting it that it that it does creak quite a lot which is slightly annoying.

Companies that make a healthy margin are much more likely to stand behind their product. You aren't just "giving them extra money".

Just found quoted for mine and the 2 doors were £1420+VAT and total was 1800 all in so fitting costs were very low (assume he had margin in the doors)

sounds like the person was more bothered by the 3 qoutes all being the exact same price.

seems like a price fixing cartel, wasn't that the kind of thing construction companies were doing the world over with government contracts and a lot got into trouble over it.

wow never realised how expensive front doors are.

there's a house near me with a double door and each door is about 9ft tall, they must be utterly loaded to just afford a double door...
