compressing mkv

hi guys I finally got my blu ray drive yesterday and started backing up my collection. The only problem ive found is that the files are huge im just wondering what is the best compression software available

MKV is just a container. You may find that you're not compressing the video before you put it in the MKV.

I'm guessing you used MakeMKV to rip the disc?

Couple of things can be used, I prefer RipBot264 myself pretty easy to use just google some guides. I get very good results.
