I'm currently using a Boss CS3 and it adds and undertone of distortion when I'm playing the clean channel of my amp.

I've looked at the obvious choices like the MXR Dyna-Comp ~£70 and Edward the Compressor by Marshall which is only £40 and currently am choosing between these two, but if anyone else has something to add into the mix I'd be grateful of the advice.

Cheers

I just bought the Marshall one, after having owned two Boss CS3s and the Behringer £12 compressor, which I guess is a CS3 clone.

I like the CS3, I think the distortion sounds like a defective unit. Either that or you're using it to boost the overall signal too much. Set it so the output is the same volume when you turn it on / off.

The Behringer pedal was okay, pretty average build quality, but cheap and replaceable, worth checking out for only £12.

The Marshall pedal is quite a decent find for £40. I really like it. It's not quite as smooth as the CS3 (if you have a decent one) but it's got a wider range and is a little more tweakable; it includes a kind of band pass, where either low or hi freqs can be compressed less, a nice touch.

If you're going to spend big bucks I'd get the Carl Martin Compressor/Limiter. I'd also be tempted by the BYOC compressor.
