Can anyone give any guidance on this course?

I hold an interest in IT, but sadly have nothing on paper to say that i'm good at it, so i want to get some qualifications.

I'm on a low wage so can i get help/grants from anywhere to help with funding this course.

Also looking at Network+

Thanks,

Andy

I did A+ but didn't finish it as i lost interest. I don't think it gets you far either, maybe someone else can shed more light on this.

Surely somewhere to start though? Probably easy but it's better than having nothing to do with computers/IT on my CV.

You don't need to pay to do it as a course. You can just buy a text book and then pay to do the exams when you're ready.

When I did A+ (a good few years back), I found Micheal Meyers A+ Certification Exam Guide excellent.

Don't expect it to make a massive different to your prospects however, but then it can't do any harm. And if you self study it won't even cost £150.

It is indeed a start....I started doing it, but never finished due to numerous thing's, but I shant go into it.

Some companies do say 'A+ minimum', but it isn't that of an amazing course to have under you...but as you said better than nothing.

There are other courses I believe a few people on here have completed that would be of greater use in the long run, so hopefully they shed some more light :)

Why would you want an IT qualification if you are a succesful recruitment consultant

Credit Crunch?

I want to better my career?

I'm only working in recruitment so i'm not scrounging off of the dole.

Is he? Dang, that's probably more moeny than most entry IT jobs :p

Also, where do most go to do these exams? I wouldn't mind picking up a book and doing it that way by myself, rather than through some random company again....Or are there random exams halls plotted everywhere or something.

I've never seen a job advert that mentions comptia or A+. What does it actually give you? and what does it tell a potential employer about you?

Perhaps you did it too slowly? I did at school, but arranged to go through the module tests on the Cisco netacad outside of the scheduled lessons. This worked very well for me but of yet has not provided me with any benefit as it was over shadowed by CCNA (by a long way, especially as it allowed me to get into a networking only job which uses the CCNA more or less every day).

The A+ is ok, but you will probably only get an entry level job at most. I started at 12500 a year without it. Now i have it i am on about 16000. (But this could be due to the 2 years experience i now have rather than the qualification.)

I've just started my MCSE which should give me a much better boost in wages and job choice, although this is quite expensive:

*Books about £100+
*Hardware £whatever, i used old stuff kicking about to create a server and then virtual ones on it.
*7 exams at about £100 each. So, the best part of a grand.

So, if your job pays more than £12K-15K i'd probably stick with that unless you want to take a pay cut while you work your way up in a new profession.:)
