CompTIA Network+

Is this thread supposed to be asking a question about the CompTIA Network+ qualification or did you just feel like telling us about your dreams?

day to day runing of a network

That's not very specific.

But I assume you mean managing servers, workstations etc. and dealing with user/email accounts, filtering software and the like? In which case, I don't think the Network+ would be the way to go. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

i am new to this JHeaton yes

Okay. In that case, you'd probably be better off looking at either a combination of A+ and Server+ from CompTIA or, perhaps better, a BTEC or NVQ in an IT Practitioner-type area, to get you started out. In fact, without previous experience, I'd say the latter is definitely the way to go. Jumping in to the other two might be a bit tough if you're new to that kind of thing, even with accompanying training courses.

Network+ is pretty straight-forward. View it as prep for the CCNA.

My advice on the Network+ is to buy the book, read it from cover to cover, and use online tutorials for extra info.

What exactly do you mean when you say "network administrator"? What do you think that covers, specifically?
Thats a good point tbh.
'Network Administrator' in industry typically means infrastructure work.
However if your refering to 'Windows Administrator', which would be someone who administers the Windows Servers, then thats entirely different.
To further confuse things, some places refer to their 'top bod' as 'Network Manager', which would entail everything with a plug on it.:p

Either way, im not entirely certain a CompTIA A+ would be all that useful if you want to get into, i suspect, Windows Administration. You'd be better off looking at MS quals imo.:)
