Just recently got back from uni and switch my pc on after about 2 months.

All seemed fine then i attached a new hard drive as i needed to transfer some stuff from my laptop to pc. Now it is disconnected there is the high pitched noise coming from the pc.

It doesn't matter if the computer is on or off it just keeps emitting it.

The psu is a 750W corsair and the whole rig is about 8 months old.

Noise has only just started so was wondering what you guys thought it might be?

Thanks

does the psu have a on/off button on it, if you turn it off does it still happen ?, if it hant got the on/off then unplug the power lead going into it.

Okay well i just tried unplugging stuff but cant get the 24 pin MB connector off ( scared i'm going to break it).

But i just watched the MB and it has two light on the bottom of the board, a on button and a reset button that lights up.

These buttons stay lighted even after the power lead is taken out. But after about a minute these lights turn off and so does the sound with it.

Hello
I would say your psu is dying as I had this happen to my G7 that worked for 2-3 years and it whined for couple of months until it just switched off (no explosions or burning)

More like the second one but not as loud and pressing on the psu makes no difference

I would just contact corsairs for a replacement, you should have a 1-3 year warranty on it anyway. A high pitch noise coming out of a PSU means there is a short in the voltage regulator and could potentially damage other parts inside your system if it was to short or fry.

UPDATE: I have a coolmaster storm enforcer and it has two usb 2.0 and two usb 3.0 ports on the front of the case.

If i plug my phone via usb into either of the usb 3.0 ports on the front of the case the noise reduces but is still there. If i plug it into the usb 2.0 it stays the same and if i plug it into the rear usb 3.0 is stays the same as well.

I know but i was wondering if maybe it is just the connector to the usb. As my board has the option to power usb's even when turned off. Don't know what the feature is though and how to turn it off as this may fix it?
