Hi, Not sure where to put this really.

Recently my garage was broken into, appeared to be a targeted attack on specific items in there. My garage is detached with no means of providing electric to it, hence looking at some outdoor CCTV cameras.

What experience of this do you guys have? anyone seen or heard of anything that would fit my purpose.

Requirements:
Does not cost the earth!
Needs night vision for at least 20meters in pure darkness area has some ambient light around but is about 50meters away.
Ideally I can integrate it to my home server to store the footage.

Thanks

Depends on how much your willing to part with. Logitech have some cool looking outdoor CCTV cameras. I was looking into this myself for a while. OcUK also stocked some SWAN cameras which were also outdoor. However I never look past Logitech with their excellent gear and support.

well the value of the contents stolen (see bike thread) was into the ££££'s so Im willing to lay out enough but not £££'s and £££'s

Cheers I will look into them the ones I found to start with only had a short range.

Y-Cam Bullet is an exceptional device - NV upto 20m and true IP Camera functionality. Software like BlueIris will allow you to record the streams as well as monitor it live.

Thanks f00f1ght0r that looks great! just wish it wasnt so much money!

Going to give that software a try tonight and see how well it works.

Oh yes, they know they, sort of said other than fitting an alarm there wasn't much more i could do to stop them since they believe the people were determine to get inside, and apparently most people dont listen to alarms these days!

I would say alarm is best way forward.

If you do go the cctv route though make sure you have good lighting sorted which is on a good motion sensor or better linked to the cctv system. It's a mare when people go o yes I have cctv and then you see the grainiest image ever. They expect like csi on tv that you can zoom in to a reflection on a teardrop and get a professional image!

Also worth bearing in mind, if the cctv records in a common format its easier again to view locally by police and saves having to send it off for conversion. Many cctv systems use custom and specific formats.

It is also correct that if they want in they are going to either way as well

Also, given the value of the items I would invest in a good anchor point riveted and concreted to the floor/wall (which isnt expensive). Thieves want quick hits and the longer they ahve to stay the better the chance they will be unsuccesful.

In complete darkness Infra red light will allow cameras to pick up images. It's a bit grainy and is second best to providing normal light.

Thanks for the recommendations guys,

Renni_95 i have been looking at those sort of options but i think I will end up triggering it!!

I also thought about the additional IR lights but like you say there will be loads of extra reflection too!

It depends, some lower watt floods, though they may be a touch bright or some standard bulbed security lights near point of entries.

I would also get down the hardware shop and get an anchor as I emntioned, very cheap and coupled with an alarm they won't have something away quickly by the time peoples attention is drawn.

ALso, an Indiana Jones styles boulder over the door?
