Bought a 5870 when it came out , been working fine on my setup below (PSU is a HEC-550W). Came home from work and it wouldnt boot up , took the cover off and one of the power cables was loose so i plugged it in, started to boot and boom flame from the mobo and that lovely burning smell which can only be associated with failure.

What i wanted to know apart from the fact i'm ****ed off is :

Do you think only the mobo has gone ? i dont have any spare parts but when booting without the card in (took the 5870 out straight away which btw smelt of burning :( ) the psu was powering the LED on the mobo and the heatsink but the whole thing obviously wouldnt boot it was just stuck in a loop.

All i have to say is from the moment i bought it the P5N-T Deluxe is an absolutely nightmare of a board (everything was stock btw), perhaps it was my average PSU but i just dont feel it was.

So , what do i buy i dont wana spend a lot so was thinking (depending on how many parts are gone):

Asus P5Q
4gb kingston hyperx
Q6600
550 corsair psu
8600GTS ( got this spare as its wat i just upgraded from , holy crap i hope my 5870 aint blown)

The one reason why i think the 5870 may have gone is before hand i was experiencing some verticle lines up and down the screen during steaming and general browsing , it never happened during heavy downloading and gameplaying so i really didnt think it was a psu problem . Reinstalled OS and drivers so didnt see the problem being that either, hope some1 gives me some good advice here, thanks. :(

Your best bet is to find a friend or someone with a similar system and start swapping parts to find what ones have failed. Did you try putting the 8600 back in to see if it booted with that?

If the card had vertical lines before the fire, I would try RMA it, would also look into trying to RMA the motherboard, maybe post some pics and some eagle eyes might be able to tell you exactly what happened
