computer chair

stretch the budget and get yourself a refurbished steel case leap.

+1

It's one of the best ergo chairs you can get and new would normally have a price tag in the high hundreds. I got a refurb for around £150 a few years ago on auction and it's still going strong. At the time there were loads floating around marked as ex-Lehman chairs, and a brief look now would suggest there are still a few out there.

Ikea markus

I'd be careful with the markus. What can initially seem like a very comfortable position ended up being seriously awful for me. I know it was the same for Begbie on here too. Felt great in the store, then when you get it home, but after a while the fact that you can't adjust the lower back support bit becomes infuriating.

The Markus is suitable for very casual use, but not as a computer chair for sitting in for extended periods on a daily basis in my experience.

I've had mine for nearly a year and while I'm not a big guy (weigh about 75kg) the seat padding became pretty much permanently deformed a few months ago with a large indent where I sit and this is from fairly light and irregular use: roughly 1-2 hours daily on weekdays and 2-3 on weekends. The chair also has no lumbar support and the vertical alignment of the back cannot be adjusted so I find myself spending the bulk of my time perched forward in the chair and use a cushion for lumbar support. Apart from the cushioning the build quality is otherwise fairly solid and it looks pretty understated.

I'm going to give one of these brash "gaming" chairs a go - I've got one of the new DXRacer Maximum chairs on pre-order from the EU site (OcUK don't yet stock the latest Maximums with the new base :( ) so will see how that goes. Hoping for a much more comfortable seat given the price!

If you want something like the Markus on the cheap, Rymans do a High Mesh Back or something that you can get for 35-40 when it's in a sale (it cycles every so often in or out of a sale).

It's very similar, and much cheaper. In the long run I'd like to get a proper ergo refurb job etc, but this more than does the job. In fact, I'd say it's better than the Gamer Racing Seat style things that my old office uses.

This! happy with mine, a bargain at ~150

Got mine for £120 and very happy with it, the first one arrived broken but the seller sent out a van with another chair and swapped it, has lasted me 3 months so far, manufactured in 2000 mine so they do last a long time :D

I don't think I could buy a chair online, I'd want to sit in it first. The only problem is finding somewhere that has a big enough selection!
