Computer Chairs...

Darcy is £79, Galloway is £105.

Markus is £109.

I'd buy a Markus.

The other chair I bought had a steel base, steel arms and a solid wooden back. The Markus has a mesh back with a lightweight padded tubular frame, which weighs very little. It's still over 3Kg heavier than the other chair because the seat is very heavy. It's so much heavier because the build quality is much higher - it's made with thicker plates of steel.

Have you sat in a Darcy? The website doesn't give any indication of the height of the back - that "pronounced lumbar support" might be digging into your back rather than supporting your head.

The back height of the Galloway is given as 67cm. That's higher than most, but less than ideal if you're fairly tall and want to sit fully back with proper head support. My old chair had a 71cm back and that was just enough for me (I'm 5'11"). The back of the Markus is 92cm high.

Hmm...on a different website, the back height of the Galloway is given as 75cm. That would make me want to measure it myself. It's a different price there too - £145.

Sit in them all if you can. It's worth a trip to the shop to try a chair, because it's a lot less fuss than buying, assembling and then finding it doesn't suit you.

If you're set on either the Galloway or the Darcy and you're not going to sit in either of them before buying, I'd go for the Galloway. I think it's probably worth the extra £26.

great thread chaps, i am looking for a new chair and it's given me some browsing idea's instead of the range at my local stationary store

This is what im sat on right now, mesh back is awesome compared to leather since if your sat in it for ages working you dont end up with a sweaty back. Also has an adjustable lower back support and adjustable height, tilt and arms

I would never go for a non (fake/real) leather seat pad, I had a few in the old days and after a couple of months they would be so insanely dirty and dusty, eg. you hit it with your hand and a whole cloud of dust came out, and the sides because dirty and fatty. Leather (or fake leather) only for me was it's easy to clean and the dust doesn't get in it.

Didn't really like Markus either, thought it pushed my back forward way too much and I never sit straight in my chair but with my arse halfway forward down the seat pad so the high head rest was completely pointless for me too.

At the mo I have an Ikea VERNER in white ( also available in black).
It's not the best chair as it also pushes my back forward and tries to enforce a healthy sitting position ( as much as I know it's better for me, I don't care, I like sitting the way I do and not straight up/ the way you're supposed to). The seat pad feels a little bit too short too, and the armrests aren't nice and soft. But for the price I can't complain at all and it looks good imo. The backrest is a tad high for my liking too ( which is even more of the case with Markus) as I like occasionally tilting my head back over the headrest.

The fake leather however, is something I'm positive over, it doesn't feel ''cold'' to the touch when you sit down on it naked and feels very warm soon as it it's cloth. And it doesn't get ''leather pocks'' ( small holes everywhere, eventually tearing the leather apart) like my last chair did after a while.

I've just measured mine and 67cm is about right. Definitely not 75 and not even sure how they could have come up with that.

I'm only 5'8" and it comes up just past my shoulders.
