One of my computer was running very on memory since only 256mb was installed so i added another stick of the same size and speed from a working system.

Once the stick was in, the computer was dead, no beeps or anything. Once I removed it, the computer booted fine. I tried the new stick on it's own and still nothing.

This is where the problem occurs, the computer won't boot with the old stick, Is it possible the new one did something to the motherboard?

I've tried reseating the ram a couple of times as well as as clearing the CMOS (removing the battery and setting the jumper to clear)

The computer beeps once the ram is removed, it sounds like one long beep followed by two short beeps.

Any Ideas?

Both seem to work fine in another pc, both are recognised and are usable.
According to a few sites, that beep code means a video problem although this motherboard has onboard graphics

What board, cpu, etc. have you got?

I had a stick of Corsair XMS3200c2 512mb and bought another one (it was a different revision and had different chips on it).

I was using an AMD a64 3000 winchester on an Epox 9NDA3J and the pc just kept crashing and restarting. I emailed Epox customer service (they are not the best  ) and got no help. I posted on the Corsair support forum and was told in no uncertain terms that running different sticks on the a64 platform was just asking for trouble. They let me rma both sticks and sent me a TwinX set which was matched and so would work. The price of an education was the freight charge for the RAM to California.

I just noticed that your old stick doesn't work, have you tried it in all the slots?
