Computer Desks - Help!

Hi guys,

I was looking for some advice on computer desks. At the moment, my current setup is all kinds of rubbish. The keyboard and mouse pull-out is far too small and my right hand keeps hitting/tapping off the keyboard. It's been this way for some time and it's the bain of my life.

I've came to the conclusion that I need to vastly improve it; especially considering my new rig is coming today!

I'm looking in the budget region of around £0-£100. I've found that the higher in price the desk, the larger they become! And space is an issue for me at the moment - My 'Man Cave' is currently under construction - There's still a double bed hogging up the entire room! Hopefully to be replaced with a sofa-bed and a hifi.

I was thinking more along the lines of a simple 'flat-top' desk. Meaning there's no designated shelf for the keyboard and mouse - The kind of design I'm looking for is where the monitor sits just behind the keyboard or on its own shelf - Leaving all of the desk room for me.

The KBM pull-out shelves only cause problems in my opinion: They're usually too small or they break!

I'd like to go for the sort of IKEA-Simplicity (conservative designs?) that we all grow to love. I'm assuming (since they're not direct competitors, in any way) that we can link to IKEA or ASDAs?

So, I introduce Exhibit A:

IKEA - Vika Amon Desk

I quite like the style of that desk.. I'd probably buy it, but there's a glaring problem with it - It's only in white!

Or, I could just get an even simplier design like Exhibit B:
ASDA - Ascot Desk (Walnut)

I'm really drawn to the Vika Amon style desk, since it's kind of funky.. But I'd like it in either wood, or a wooden effect.

I don't need drawers or shelves (unless the design has them, or it blends in well), since I have a massive bookcase, and I literally live inside Malm drawers.. :/

Once the room is complete, I'll probably invest in a corner-unit, so I can stack all of my games & junk around me :)

Thanks for your help in advance guys!

your on the ball with ikea, have a look at their table tops rather than desks, then add whichever legs you feel suit it.

like this for the vika amon, a few to chose from :

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00209839/

if your after wood then kitchen tops might be a better bet check the desks/rooms gallery thread in the case central forum for ideas.

Aaaah... Customisation.... I forgot IKEA allowed you to mix-n-match items. I'd probably go for a wooden table top, and sturdy legs (The Vika Amon leg on the left with the odd shelves looked sturdy enough. I wasn't keen on the metal pins either).

I'm going to IKEA next Wednesday anyhow, I'll have a good hunt around.. But only after I've scoffed down a mountain of meatballs! :D

I got the VIKA Amon a couple of weeks ago, very nice desk and in store they had white, black red and green :D (I went for green with the black shelving and black legs, looks sweet. My mum wouldn't let me go for a lego look with red legs :P)

Any pictures? ;)

I think I'll pick up one of the Vika Amon tables. If they let me mix n match in store, I'll be in for a treat. Green shelves and the rest in black would look saweeeeet!

Or a black shelf and green lego legs!
