***I meant to put HDMI not DVI***

Hi, I've got myself a nice Panasonic TV over the Christmas period which supports 720p. I thought I would plug it into my 8800GTX and watch movies on it, but when trying found that it only supported 1280x1024.
If I were to buy a GFX card that had a HDMI output and plug it straight into the TV would it support a resolution of 720 or still only the 4:3 res of 1280x1024?

You can force resolutions within Nvidia CP. Problem is some NVIDIA cards (like mine) have issues with HDTV's (like mine). They also do not support overscan features.

Just tried a DVI to HDMI converter and it didn't seem to work. When I set it to 720 it worked as if the screen could only support 640x480 and as I moved the mouse around th visible part of the screen moved (most of the output wasn't visible on the screen at one time).

I was wondering if true HDMI to HDMI (not from DVI) would solve this?

Have you tried setting it to the screens native resolution as it won't be 720, i used to have a panasonic 50px70 plasma tv (which was a HD ready tv i.e. 720p) but the native resolution of the tv was something like 1024 x 768. either look in the instruction book for the tv, under specifications, or google it. Also make sure the its set to 60Hz

What model of panasonic is the tv?

Also, i am not sure if that graphics card carries sound over HDMI like ATI cards do.

does your tv have more than one HDMI port? If so try all of them! My samsung tv has 3 hdmi ports but ONLY ONE of them supports the native resolution when i connect a gfx card
