Computer enthusiast - what have you learnt over the years

  • Ignore reviews and read about other's experience, most "professional" reviews are nonsense
  • Framerates and settings do not maketh the game
  • VRR is better than you think it will be
  • Elitists are knobs
  • Steam is not a white knight to PC gaming
  • Having kids destroys your will to play games for the first 6-9 years

When about to spend, ask yourself what you're actually trying to achieve though spending.
If you can't answer yourself, the likelyhood everyone else is going to think you're an idiot.

ODEE was my defence partner in ctf, he went on to be the manager of Dignitas

Aside from I know of the ODEE you are referring to I can't even remember the context now that is going back some.

Aside from the Dignitas connection I think he was a regular on xs4all?

Wiiija and I played for KoTR from its conception - @wiiiija maybe a bit later? ODEE, originally played for [OG], Original Gangsters, with Cleo, Munkyfunk, Swiss, Hades etc.. .

We mainly played on Wireplay, Barry's and Jolt servers. He left OG (or they disbanded) and joined KoTR as he got on well with us all and we were just starting to find our rhythm as a clan when he joined. ODEE played in defense so joined Wij and I as defensive players - although he had the edge on us if I remember (Wiiija, correct me if I'm remembering this wrong). I left when it started to get very competitive and I had my first child - priorities changed overnight.

Did you play around the same time too Rroff? I played as plectr@m which quickly got shortened to Plec within irc...

I played a lot of Q3 back then - jolt and xs4all servers mostly in the EU/UK but mostly played the NA CTF ladders as the EU competitive scene was dominated by TDM and duelling. I've forgotten a lot of specifics after all this time though but I recognise the name ODEE and context.

1) Whilst we might miss the good old days of amazing new hardware would come out every year doubling our performance... that sure was expensive!
2) PC hardware is a lot more resilient than you think it is and doesn't need to be treated like a nuclear warhead.
