If as I suspect the web designer and computer business are one in the same (probably his sister), that once they realised you'd found the contact name for the web site they assumed you'd rumbled them, and therefore I would imagine that they gave you your stuff back so that you at least would not be able to get the police on them.

Good point - but it wasn't that hard to find since it was on computer fix's website at the bottom.

I would imagine any outfit thats out to rip off the general public would have covered the very basics of thier field. If your putting up a dishonest front ,in this case a website , you do not want it connecting to you in any way . Its the very most basic and obvious step to secure this requirement. I think most of you are suspicious at the very core.
 
Not really, just when a computer gets taken and you can't contact who took it and the shop they said they have does not seem to be occupied.

Actually, no. That wouldn't worry me at all.

that's before the fact, and yes worry would be just. but now that everyone realizes that's not the case, there are people who are STILL saying the company is corrupt and only gave p.c back because they were scared.
 
I blame the terrorists. Secret Islamic ring stealing computers and sending them to afghanistan to be turned into cruise missiles.

Yup, most self respecting crooks would take this approach. Most inept, dumb and otherwise clumsy crooks may do as I postulate. There's this tv prog called America's Dumbest Criminals, I think think these guys are going for a UK version. Allegedly.
 
im not too bothered with these types of scams, credit card fruad and those types cause you problems, if youve actually seen people face to face and they scam you.. or me?!, then i personally, would find them within a few days if they remain in the same city. what happens then is not nice
