hi guys mainly for any one with this system or similar system

"Ultima Viper" Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz @ 4.00GHz DDR3 System

all the reviews are for gaming and as much as i like to game i really want to know how it handels modelling software like maya/ ligthwave and post production software like cs5 after effects etc. and in maya and lightwave can it handel heavy rendering.

i like this system as its within budget being a poorly student and all.

Ive got almost an identical system except mine is a 930, not a 950... In my opinion i'd get a 930 processor, save a hundred quid or so and use it to get 12gig of RAM in there. I'd reccomend Hyperx RAM as it doesnt have the massive heatsinks like dominator so it fits under my push pull fan configuration nicely. Doing rendering and modelling will be pretty RAM intensive and in my mind you'll see more performance gain from 6 gig extra RAM than you will from having a 930@4ghz compared to a 950@4ghz as the two are pretty much identical. But thats just my 2 pence, I may be wrong, but I'm sure someone will be along to say so if I am! :D

Though wont he have to take the overclock off if he puts in more ram, at least thats what i was told for my machine. I really need another 6gig ram in it for my 3d modelling as it soon goes through the current 6 gig.

nah my 930 is running solid as a rock at 3.8ghz with 12 gig of RAM @ 8-8-8-24 @1440mhz.
i'm 18 hours prime stable so i doubt anything will ever cause it to go **** up unless I try and play crysis while encoding, rendering and using cs5 and lightroom simultaneously!lol! if you take the overclock down a touch to 3.8 rather than 4 you save yourself some headroom for the extra RAM and you arent gonna notice 200mhz between 3.8 and 4ghz. The 4ghz thing is just an excercise in showing off, you wouldnt notice in the real world.

That system would do that without missing a beat, you would find that most gaming system are normally perfect for any PC tasks no matter how strenuous they may be.

thanks guys for the help, i like the 12gig idea. not big on the building my own system i like the idea of someone esle building it. thats why i like overclockers. lol
