Computer forensics - anyone work in the field?

You don't exactly have to be in the Computer Forenics field to be able to spot those doing wrong!

I for one work for a IT support company and have found a couple of clients to be not up to good with certain things.

PS. The above statements maybe untrue due to too much alcohol.

If you really want to catch a company/people doing bad things go after the government and the establsiment before you decide to target innocent people.

Thanks for the input, I think. I am interested in the field, which might become part of my business in the near future. I have no interest in targeting innocent people

I'll have one of what you're drinking though ;)

It's what I do. Hard to get into and probably getting harder due to all the Computer Forensic graduates coming out of uni. I was in the Police and had a degree in Computer Science, so was a natural progression. It's a continually changing field of work, so you need to keep on top of it.

As with most careers, doing the job teaches you far more than studying about the job, it's gaining that experience that's the hard part.

I'm currently studying BSc Digital Forensics, enjoying it and just another year to go.
There seems to be a fair few jobs out there when i leave too which looks promising.

I want to know how effective truecrypt is.

As long as your password. I don't have time to find the source but my forensics teacher always tells the story of a child porn ring master who was caught, his encription hash will only take the FBI over 2000 years to crack ( was over 150 charas ) all they could send him down for was 2 years for not giving them the password :P

Use a live CD/DVD and an encrypted overseas VPN.

That'll give them something to think about.

Sounds like you've done this kind of thing before :P

Lol, I thought geeks usually kept it in somewhere like C:\WINDOWS\twain_32 :p Encrypted ofc.

then .zip the folder then rename it to windowsdemo.wmv or something and rename back to .zip when you want it lol

just clear out the temp files after looking :p

Wouldn't be hard to run a sweep of the filesystem finding files whose type doesn't match the file extension tbh.
