I was hoping someone here works in computer forensics; I just want a small chat about paths through into the industry.

I've spent the last 12 months waiting in a job for an expected opportunity, one that I’ve been told multiple times existed, unfortunately I’ve sadly learned its probably never going to happen and am seriously down in the dumps about it :(.

It's such a niche market I can't figure out where to start looking.

Hi , hope I can help

You are right, it is a serious niche market but the opportunities are there, massively. CPS are crying out for Computer Forensic individuals/groups atm. Current waiting list to even have a computer looked at (confiscated by the police) is 18months!

Think about going the contractor route and promoting your services to local police authority, etc.

Mind if I take your msn details etc? or something along those lines so i can have a chat?

Depends on who employs them. Private companies pay pretty well, but if you do it for the government (either police or FSS) then starting rates are about £18k-24k depending on qualifications and experience. If you need training (and you will - no-one ever learns the right things on a course) then salary may well be even lower.
