Computer freezes after ~20 minutes of gaming

I dont even have AB installed, I've found a few threads about it now though, mostly relating to AB and programs like that, and also realtek sound conflicts. Fed up of it tonight though, shall have a play tomorrow.

Thanks for all your help guys! At least now I know what the problem is, it's just finding a cure!

Just be mindful of what you are running. Programs can sneak into your startup programs and run in the background. It could even be motherboard software that works in the background to monitor your fan speed that also monitors your gpu. Speedfan does not affect me by the way, it seems to be exempt.

Not sure about the realtek thing as it's never caused me an issue but then I don't use it for sound these days but the software is still installed on my machine.

Well I have a 2 day old install of W7, I literally have the drivers installed, gpu-z which is just an exe, and realtemp which is also just an exe

I've just completed a new build and it keeps locking up in various games, all of them run through Steam but not all of them lock up. Other games outside Steam (Minecraft, etc) don't seem to be affected. I suspect this might be a Steam issue as when Counterstrike fails I am able to Alt-Tab and see that steam.exe is running at 50% or more, the Steam Client also start exhibiting issues. I've ordered some compatible RAM just to make sure.

I don't think my problem is with steam, as COD4 is a non-steam game, and that uses punkbuster and does exactly the same thing as BF does, so I am pretty sure PB is suspect now :)

I don't have AB installed.

I just disabled on-board sound in the BIOS, after 9 minutes it froze again, only this time it froze for about 2 seconds and the game just quit back to the desktop, so that is a bit odd!

I downloaded the BF3 Beta today, 20 minutes in.. crash! Disabled PB and it's perfectly fine.

At least now I've confirmed it's a PB fault, now I just need to try and get to the bottom of it.

I'll report back if I figure it out.

not sure it will help but I had similar beef in bc2, changed the DirectX setting in settings.ini to DxVersion=DX9, fixed my crashes and wsod.

Must be a driver issue, weird.

Can be found in my documents, hope this helps.

I already tried that but it didn't help!

So last night I plugged in an old (and I mean old) Creative Audigy sound card, disabled on-board in BIOS, and fired up BF:BC2 again; 3 hours later, NO CRASH! :D

I installed MSI afterburner and ran that, after 20 minutes it froze again, closed the program, and it didn't freeze.

Punkbuster really need to sort out some compatibility issues. But at least I know how to avoid the problem now.

Thanks for all your help guys!
