Computer freezes randomly, and then unable to load boot manager.

When using my computer, or even when it's just idling, it'll freeze, the start bar will disappear and ctrl, alt, delete doesn't do anything. However, I can still press the num/caps/scroll lock on the keyboard and get the lights on and off. In order to progress, I need to turn the computer off with the button. When I turn it back on, it says that it is unable to load btmgr and I have to turn off and then on again and Windows 7 loads fine.

What do people think the most likely problem is? I don't have a Windows 7 boot disc, so I can't do a clean install of windows (though happy to cover postage and a pint if someone could post me one!).
I plan to do a memory test as well at some point, I have ordered a USB stick today so hopefully be able to do that tomorrow.
I'm thinking it could be a bad sector on my HDD? I have pretty old HDDs so maybe they are on their way out. However, I don't really want to spend the money replacing them if it's going to leave the issue.
Any other ideas?

Temperatures are fine across all components.
 
You can download boot disk with the Win7 repair option on it or a full legit Win 7 image from digitalriver.

I assume your on a mobile device posting here so would not be able to burn or transfer the media?
 
Superb, I'll download that tomorrow and put it onto my thumb drive. Didn't even realise that you were able to download a legal, safe, version.

Do you guys think it's most likely an issue with Windows?
 
it could be a issue with windows, if you boot from the CD it should give you a option to try a repair on the OS

failing that you can al try this in command prompt

sfc /scannow

it will check windows files and see if there is any issues with any of them

forgot to mention earlier if you download the right ISO from the above link you can use your key to activate it.

I have done this with a laptop using windows 7 home premium and the CD had no service pack so downloaded the iso and sued that 1 with the key to activate.
