Well seeing as I plan to have a career as a programmer in the industry I reckon it has altered my life a bit!

8. Do you feel that computer games can be of any use in education?

Yes - they already are...

9. Do you feel that computer games are indeed a valid cause of violence in society nowadays or instead used as a scapegoat?, please state briefly any comments you many have on this matter.

They are as valid as films, books, tv i.e. not very. I think that someone who becomes violent will do so because of underlying mental/social problems which are not caused by gaming. I also feel that video games are being used as a scapegoat in the media but only because it is still a relatively new medium and hasn't permeated through the whole of society yet.

Made me more interested in computers as a whole. Made some good friends because of it.

They might cause violence in some cases but the same can be said for violent film or television programmes. It's the individual and their control over their actions that is the problem, not the media they are exposed to.

Completely used as a scapegoat. I feel that someone must already have issues if a game either tips them over the edge, or causes them to act out a games content. For me, there is a clearly defined line between gaming, and real life, just as there is between films and real life.

Yes, only in my hobbies and some friends i wouldnt know without it.

In certain games in can help with reading and maths without the child actually knowing.

I dont think a "normal" person would ever be affected by a computer game but some who is of a violent persona it may feed his hunger in the same way watching a violent movie would. Computer games are the new videos, rock n roll, books etc that have made to be the bad guy rather than the Bad guy themselves.

yes, far too many hours wasted from 14-20 years of age, I often wonder what I would be doing now if I hadn't wasted all that time!

Adults have always blamed something for weird behaviour, rock music, violent films and now computer games. It is easier than looking at the real source of the problem, mental health issues, bad parenting and an society that lets people like this slip through the cracks!

Yes, some games have educated me and especially made me more knowledgeable about the hardware I'm using. Also made some very good friends along the way.

Used as a scapegoat. Many people should be able to sensibly tell the difference between video games and real life and not try to purposely imitate violent acts, or else they shouldn't be playing those types of games.

Yes, like any hobby i would probably be more successful in education and work had i not taken it up. But as i say, pretty much any hobby will result in this if a lot of time is invested in it

No, some people who play games are too impressionable/unstable, most of the people who committ violent crimes have been playing "x games" etc.. would usually have committed a crime/done an act in the long run if it hadn't been in the game, sure, some people commit crimes etc.. cause of games, just like some do cause of things they see in films, on tv, on the radio and in thier heads.

Made it less boring its also the reason i got into the games industry.

Yes, if designed properly to be both entertaining and filled with accurate well researched information. A game could easily be set in a historically accurate game world(like some books and movies are).

Its a scapegoat. Books, music and films have all been in the frame for causing violence, but i think its rubbish. If someones going to go out kill someone, chances are that they already have serious issues and theyll do it anyway, whether its in the style of the favourite game or not.

purely a scapegoat, of course people will get ideas from computer games, as well as movies, but most people of a sane disposition will be able to differentiate between fiction (games) and real life (fact) and distinguish what is and what is not acceptable. those that can not do this will commit crimes regardless of what encourages them and i don't believe an entire species should be deprived of a leisure activity because one or two people are not mentally stable. that'd be the equivalent of banning glass bottles because some people use them as weapons.

Used as a scapegoat, because society has failed and needs to blame something, games are the easy option, I have never heard that someone who was speeding was playing Gran Turismo the night before!
