Computer hanging after upgrade

Just upgraded my rig with an i5 3570k, corsair xms3 and gigabyte z77x-d3h. Problem I'm getting is windows freezing. I did a fresh install and installed mobo drivers. Sometimes just after startup sometimes 10 minutes after. I can still move the cursor but nothing responds. Sometimes if I leave it long enough, a good few minutes, it catches up. Sometimes I get a pop up window saying Microsoft Windows has stopped responding. Do you want to end process; clicking on this rarely does anything but sometimes works.

Any ideas? Should I reinstall windows, could that be corrupt?

I would check through your events logs for the time of the freezes and see what was recorded. You could also try windows repair.

Try windows repair and see if that fixes the problem. Definitely looks like a windows problem.

Do I have to do that from the install disc/usb?

I'd look to update the BIOS if you haven't already. Did you enable ACHI mode in the sata options of the BIOS as you have a SSD?

I'd do the BIOS update, check the sata options, enable the XMP memory profile for the RAM and reinstall the OS in ACHI mode. Download the latest drivers don't use the disk that came with the mobo.

Sorry it's very vague help, just want to make sure you set the rig up right from the get go

Yes mate, just install the disc/usb and restart your computer.
What storage controller do you have installed?
Do you also have Intel Rapid Storage Technologies installed?

run this in ide mode,restart into bios set to ahci and restart into bio,do this esp if your running an ssd]

update to the latest bios through qflash and a usb stick
set bclk to 100
set cpu voltage response to fast and enable x.m.p for your memory

then see if its any better

Probs want to grab the latest drivers for mobo/chipset/lan....etc before you do the clean install.I find it easier that way anywhoo.

It was set to ahci by default. I've reinstalled windows and still same issue. I'll get the latest drivers of the net and do the bios update.
