Computer in a hallway?

I'd put the TV on the opposite wall in the living room so you can see it from the kitchen while making food.

I'd also put a sofa bed in the room with the computer so you have all the room you need to make it a comfortable study/gaming room but then easy enough to sort out for friends/family staying over.

I think in the long run all our spare bedrooms are going to have sofa beds so that we actually make use of the rooms more than just literally 5 times a year for people staying over.

I hear you. Problem is the pre wired sky point and phone connection are all on that right side wall. I'd have to send all the wires across lounge to reach other wall. Bit of a pain. Could wrap them around side of terrace door though with some trunking perhaps.

Sofa bed in spare room would get my vote as well, then have PC in there.

I moved in a year ago with a 3 bedroom, one being a shoebox where I have my office/ mancave. 2nd bedroom has a double bed and a wardrobe in it. It has been used a grand total of 3 times since we have moved in. Maybe we just don't have many friends :P it is a lot of wasted space imo.

My friend went with the other approach. 2nd bedroom is his mancave with a sofabed... I envy him.

In older flats with large square hallways. I have seen people turn a 2 bed flat into a 3 bed flat by using the living room as another bedroom and then using the hallway as a living room. Usually only big enough for a sofa and a tv but plenty of space to move around into the rooms, etc.

I'm considering one now but I've always thought they seem really flimsy and uncomfortable as beds. Are they ok to sleep on?

how about buying a laptop? yes i know it's dearer but then so is a bigger house.

Well eventually, I will probably get rid of the tower/desk/monitor setup but for gaming I still don't think laptops cut it.

I've not slept on many but I find them adequate for a couple nights. Wouldn't want one as a long term solution. But like anything, you get what you pay for.

sofa beds are a temporary solution. as in you should be sleeping on a sofa bed as a 1 off. as in you went to visit your mate and stayed there for a few days to 2 weeks max. and that was the only time you ever slept one for several years.

no doubt you could sleep on one every day but it wouldn't be doing your back any favours.

as for laptops. you just need to spend 2-3 times what you would on a tower to get the same power. so if your tower cost you £500, your looking at spending £1000-£1500 on a laptop. plenty of decent gaming laptops out there and the top end ones cost £2-£3K

Are you actually going to be using the second bedroom as a bedroom? If not, put the computer there. Otherwise, put the computer and the rest of your home office in the space to the left of the kitchen.

I have my computer and a full size desk in my spare bedroom as well as a sofa bed that is always left up as bed so it can be done if the room is big enough. Been here 8 month and it's been used a few times for guests etc and one found the firm mattress on it so comfortable that they went and bought one for their own home. I've had to put my desk opposite the window which wasn't my first choice but being upstairs and having blinds means privacy isn't an issue most of the time.
