Computer just *Popped*

Hi OCUK :),
So this morning I turn on the power to my computer and monitors and hear a alarming pop sound. My first thought was ****!. I decided to try turning on the computer anyway and to my surprise it worked and booted into windows. I powered down the PC unplugged the monitors just to make sure that it did come from the PC. After that I unplugged all the modular cables from my power supply and tested a few times turning the power on and off at the wall, every time the power went on the PSU made a loud *POP*. I tried using a different kettle plug just to test but that did not fix things.
So I assume that I'm going to have to replace/return this PSU but I am wondering for now, is it still safe to use the PC or not?

Just to note the power supply is a XFX XXX Edition 650W Modular Power Supply
 
Doesn't sound good mate, i would certainly return it.

As for using it, it is entirely up to you, but I wouldn't, I would get it out and get it ready for sending back, you never know what might happen ;)
 
Yes certainly return it and refrain from using it until you've made a replacement.

If you're into PC building, it's always worth keeping a spare generic PSU around, just for testing purposes.
 
+1 dont use it, get the PSU out of it.

I had a Corsair TX650W do this exact same thing, i was stupid and kept using it, kept giving a pop when mains power was turned on but seemed to work anyway. untill one day it did'nt pop, it went bang ! and that was the last thing it ever did along with my mother board.

My Enermax psu went bang whilst be used, been on for around 1/2 hr, bright flash and a bang! Did make me jump :(
 
lucky it was only the motheboard; a PSU can take out pretty much everything if it goes bad including expensive GFX cards
 
Thanks guys :) Got my laptop battle station setup! PSU is boxed and ready to go :)
