So I got my new (well 2nd hand off MM) graphics card today: Sapphire R9 290.
Fresh install of windows, all drivers, program installations go perfectly zero problems/crashes/errors.
Go to play Rift (not a particularly graphics heavy game) and after about 2 minutes my PC just powered down. No BSOD or anything just powered off.
I downloaded Furmark to stress test the GPU and literally within 5seconds of starting the burn-in test the PC powers down.
Due to it not being an error/crash I'm inclined to say this is a power problem? However my last gfx card was a GTX680 which had no problems with my Silverstone Strider 750W PSU?
Side point: My GTX680 was powered by 2x 8pin connectors. For aesthetic purposes I used two pre-braided 6+2pin connectors (worked fine with the GTX680) but the R9 290 has 1x6pin & 1x 8pin so one of the braided cables just has the +2 hanging loose. Could this be an issue?
So specs:
i5 2500k
8GB Crucial Ballistix RAM
MSi P67A-GD65
Samsung F1 1TB HDD
5x 120mm + 1x 140mm Xigmatek LED fans (on fan controller)
All the above is unchanged.
New today:
Crucial M500 240GB SSD (swapped out 2x Crucial M4s for this)
Sapphire R9 290 (swapped out MSi GTX680 Power Edition)
All works perfectly on desktop/light tasks e.g. browsing just as soon as I load the GPU it powers down.
Any advice/help would be greatly welcomed
